“Overall it was a great stay.”

The rooms were decent, though a few beds felt too soft. There was a power outage and the showers were cold. Breakfast wasn’t great, but the staff tried their best; I was disappointed that the quality didn’t match the price, though it wasn’t entirely their fault.

The room was great and breakfast was good, but finding gluten‑free options at breakfast is hard—this is common in most hotels, motels, or inns.

Getting to all the nearby attractions was a breeze, and the room was modern and clean. On our last day the power went out; while the hotel wasn’t at fault, the emergency lighting in the halls and stairwells was inadequate. The bed height was too high for seniors, and breakfast was barely enough with limited variety.

The property looked nice, but the experience was terrible. I paid cash at check‑in, yet the hotel also charged my credit card. After checking out I saw another full night’s charge on my statement. I called, spoke to Sharmin, and was put on hold multiple times while she gave nonsensical excuses. I asked for a manager, was told none were on duty at 3:30 pm, and that someone would call me the next day. I said that was unacceptable and demanded a resolution that day. As a former Assistant General Manager, I’m thoroughly disappointed with how The Essenhaus handled this. Hours later Lisa called back and blamed a power outage for the accidental charge—just another excuse. I can’t fathom why they didn’t verify payment before giving me the keys. At least my card was refunded, but the apology and excuses were insufficient.
