“It doesn't get much better than this!”
We enjoyed a fantastic three‑night stay at Komorian, a beautiful house near the Kumano Kodo trail, run by the wonderful Miko. Miko was a fantastic host who went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and relaxing. Before we arrived, she gave detailed, personalized directions and helped arrange a luggage transfer. From Komorian, hiking the Kumano Kodo trail was easy; Miko advised us on which sections to hike and when, and she would take us to the starting point in the morning and pick us up in the afternoon. She cooked breakfast and dinner every day, and we loved the delicious meals that showcased a wide range of Japanese cuisine with local ingredients. Miko was kind, good‑humored, and fluent in English, and we had many memorable conversations with her about the local area, Japan, and Japanese culture. The house itself is spacious and elegant, featuring traditional Japanese architecture with sliding doors and tatami mats, but with modern touches. Large windows offer beautiful views of the river right next to the house. At night, we drifted to sleep listening to the tranquil river sounds and chirping crickets. The house is well‑equipped with a large kitchen, Bluetooth speaker, kettle, TV, air‑conditioners, and plenty of plates, cups, and dishes. After long walks, we enjoyed a relaxing bath in the wooden tub and lounged in the living room under the kotatsu.
