The setting, the room, and the view from the room were all great, but there was no hot water and breakfast was limited.
The view was breathtakingly beautiful, the rooms were spacious with a nice lounge, and the main bed was perfect; the extra bed had good springs and it was nice that it could be added. Unfortunately we had no hot water, and sometimes there was no running water at all—this happened when laundry was being done while we were showering. We were also given a taxi driver who claimed to know the village well but turned out not to, so thank you Google Maps! The food was quite pricey, about three times the local rate, but we could easily solve that by ordering elsewhere through Grab.
Ryan was genuinely kind and welcomed us exceptionally. The rice paddies on the property are lovely, and a scooter gets you quickly to the main sights of Telebatu. The only downside was the noise from other rooms when there were many guests, plus the surrounding mosques.
“Beautiful house, dated facilities, great location when you want to stay locally and not to touristy.”
The house is gorgeous and built well, with a separate bedroom, lounge, bathroom, and a gym, and its location in the rice and tobacco fields is awesome. It’s close to the activities we wanted: Tetebatu monkey forest (about 30–45 min), waterfalls, and tubing (about 1.5–2 h). The staff were very kind and the beds were beautiful, though the mosquito net didn’t seal properly so we got stung often. When the staff did laundry, we couldn’t shower because there was no water—standing naked in a shower with no water coming out was very inconvenient, and warm water was scarce. Breakfast was simple (pancakes or omelet) and more like deep‑fried pancakes. Dinner was best ordered via Grab—cheap and they deliver to the hotel. Their food is expensive (85,000 for plain nasi goreng). There are no local restaurants around the hotel, so you have to take a taxi, which is hard to find so far inland.
“It was a unique experience staying in this beautiful building but the noise was a big negative.”
I was excited to stay in this beautifully designed building with stunning views of the rice fields, a friendly host, and a spacious room that was very budget‑friendly. However, the reality was far from the peaceful image in the pictures; the location is on a busy main road, opposite a mosque, and the noise spikes dramatically on Fridays, so I would avoid those days.
