Stads Hotel Boerland is centrally located in Emmen, 200 metres from Wildlands Adventure Zoo. The hotel features a bar/restaurant, De Heeren van Boerland, with a large terrace. Shops, markets, and restaurants surround the car-free property. Free parking is available behind the hotel, which is close to the German border and 25 km from Assen.

In the city center, but everything was very old, the beds were old, the shampoo bottles were already used, the AC initially didn’t work but was later fixed, and a flickering lamp stayed on all night.

The staff were very friendly in the evening and the bar was very cozy, but the hallway was extremely noisy and the rooms had specific sounds that were quite annoying. In the morning, the staff spoke no Dutch.

This place was very sparse and the price did not match the quality at all. The breakfast could have been better, the room equipment was very poor, the TV didn’t even have German channels, and overall the experience was bad enough that I wouldn’t book it again.

Breakfast was fine, the bed and towels were clean, and the staff were friendly. However, there was no staffed reception (we only happened to meet someone when we were looking for the entrance) and it was unclear where the hotel entrance was. The carpet in the room was soggy in front of the bathroom door, making the room smell bad (the carpet was already old and dirty). Broken glass and a lot of cigarette butts were on the balcony, and the air‑conditioner remote didn’t work. I complained to a young employee who tried her best, but her manager suggested bringing in contractors to fix the leaking carpet. That was in the evening and would have invaded my privacy since no other room was available, so I refused that solution. Afterwards there was complete radio silence, no fix, no apology, no discount or anything. The leak was known and yet this room was still being rented, which I find very strange. It feels like the hotel cares more about making money than guest comfort, and I will never stay there again or recommend it to anyone.
