The bed and toilet were clean, but everything else was lacking: no hot water except from the electric shower, the room wasn’t pleasant, it wasn’t very clean, and the cooked breakfast was the first time I’ve not eaten it. You’re left with no real choice but to accept it and not return when better options exist. I’ve stayed all over the country for work, in many B&Bs and hotels, and this is the first time I’ve not enjoyed the breakfast.

I stayed at this old‑world guesthouse that had plenty of character, and the owner was very friendly. The breakfast was excellent, and everything else was fine.

I could get an early breakfast each morning, cooked to order, but the place smelled damp as soon as I walked through the front door. There was no hot water at the sink because a recent fire had damaged the boiler, the paintwork was dirty and mould appeared on the windows, towels were threadbare, and the TV was hard to use because the remote’s batteries were dead; the whole place could use a major overhaul.

The breakfast was a complete surprise and a great addition to my stay, and the room was clean and tidy; I would happily stay again. The TV was a little dated.
