“Pleasant Business Trip”
The spot was great, but the rooms and showers left a lot to be desired.
The location was fine, but the food at the bar fell below the standards expected for this hotel, and the service took too long.
“Historic Elegance in the Heart of Toronto — Perfect for Special Occasions, Not Ideal for Families”
Walking up the grand staircase into the main lobby, I was hit by stunning architecture, beautiful woodwork, elegant details, and a level of craftsmanship that feels almost impossible to describe until you see it in person; the whole place radiates a timeless, luxurious vibe that makes you feel as if you’ve stepped into another era. To the right of the lobby sits a lovely lounge with live music, adding even more charm, and there are two other gorgeous restaurants that fit perfectly with the hotel’s character and sophistication. The architecture, design, woodwork, and attention to detail throughout are absolutely remarkable, and the Fairmont Royal York’s presence instantly makes you feel like royalty, with its historical beauty standing out as one of the highlights of our stay. However, traveling with a small child and a stroller revealed how hard it is to navigate the main entrances—stairs immediately block the way, the revolving doors are too narrow for a stroller or wheelchair, and the push‑to‑open doors are surprisingly heavy when you try to hold a stroller with one hand. Entering or exiting became more difficult than it should have been for a family with a young child, and I suspect wheelchair users would face similar challenges. While the hotel does have doormen and bell staff who could make the experience easier, during our four‑day stay we were offered assistance only three or four times out of roughly 20 entries or exits. Some doormen seemed more focused on posing for photos with limousines and maintaining the hotel’s image than on guests who truly needed help. For a hotel of this caliber, I expected far better attention to accessibility and to families traveling with young children.
“Unimpressed”
The hotel is centrally located, but the rooms…
“Everything you’d expect from a premier hotel with old world charm, great ambiance and first rate facilities.”
The ambiance and location were spot‑on, and nothing was wrong—everything was amazing throughout our stay.
