It matched the pictures exactly and had a large courtyard; we didn’t mind the toilet and shower being outside, and we could see the mountains on the way. Lanh and his sisters were amazing hosts, and we ate or drank with them most nights. Dressing up, dancing, and singing was a great craic, and we’ll definitely return in a few years.

Because there were few guests, I got a nice room and was told I could use it until the bus left. I was feeling unwell, so that was very helpful, and they even drove me to the bus stop. I was treated to delicious food, the view from the lodge was beautiful, and there are two other family‑run lodges nearby. I could play badminton, and they were very kind throughout my stay, so I’d like to come back. The staff didn’t know much about public transport, so you’ll have to look it up yourself. For a motorbike taxi to Donban, I think they can arrange it.

Staff member Lanh was very helpful. I arrived early but was feeling ill and wanted to lie down, so he put two mattresses together to create a bed for me. He invited me to have dinner with his family; I had already eaten, but he gave me a tasty soup that I appreciated. The day I stayed happened to be the day of the Hazan marathon, so there were many people in the group and it was noisy both at night and early morning. It was an event, so it was unavoidable.

There’s another lodge nearby, and after seeing a dormitory room I thought this one was bigger and better. The people I met at the lodge were kind, and the market is close, so I never had trouble finding food. The Sunday market starts early, and when it’s early it’s too crowded to walk around. I was able to enjoy both the Sunday market and a marathon race that happened on the same day. The toilet and shower are separate, so if it looks like rain is coming, be careful.
