The room was clean, but it was sweltering and the fan was oddly positioned, so no breeze reached the bed at all—sleep was impossible. The staff didn’t respond to my concerns.

The cottage sits in the jungle on an unpaved road, giving you a real locals‑vibe. It has its own terrace, and the family running the place is very friendly, always reachable via WhatsApp. The air‑conditioning didn’t work because the remote was broken, though a fan was available. Because of the wild elephants, you must return before dark. For a stronger signal you need to walk down the path; inside the cottage the connection can drop.

This spot is just outside town, surrounded by the most beautiful natural scenery, and within walking distance of restaurants. Renting a motorbike from the family was a fun way to explore the area. The family were genuinely friendly and helpful while still giving us privacy.

A kind woman welcomed us, and even though she couldn’t speak any of our languages, she managed to meet our needs. The place was very far off the beaten path, making it hard to find.

Everything was very quiet and beautiful. The staff were friendly, the place private, and centrally located. Occasionally you could hear dogs at night, but that’s normal in Sri Lanka.
