I was close to the underground river and bars with decent food at reasonable prices, and my room had a cold and hot water jug. The hotel didn’t respond to my emails.

I’ve been traveling around Asia for a decade and have never encountered a place like this; the price‑to‑quality ratio is completely off. The only good things were the water and the bedding. On the downside, there were swarms of ants everywhere – on the bed, floor, walls, you name it – and the hot‑water heater wasn’t even plugged in, so there was no warm water. The bathroom flooded, water didn’t drain and I was stepping through ankle‑deep pools that spilled into the room. The owner showed no interest in guests, seemed annoyed, and never made any contact. The building was unbearably noisy, with parties and drinking sessions downstairs that the owner just ignored. In short, you’re not welcome here and there’s no reason to pay. I’ve slept in places without hot water and in modest lodgings where the price matched the conditions, and the owners always tried to accommodate as best they could. The Philippines are not Asia.
