The location was good, just 15 minutes from Estes Park, but the room had bugs that caused rashes and a rat that appeared in the middle of the night. The common area had water dripping from the upper level, and I slipped—luckily I wasn’t hurt.

I was excited about the cozy fireplace, but the cabin’s furniture was terrible—rated for 8 people yet only four chairs at the dining table, a hard sofa with worn cushions, and a handful of giant moths and mice. The floors were so filthy that my socks turned black, and the old wiring looked unsafe. I had loved the lodge rooms 15 years ago, but for the price we paid this time, it was a less than desirable experience. It could become a great lodge if someone invested time and money, otherwise the cabins should be priced lower and marketed as very rustic camping cabins.

The front desk girl was nice, yet the room was infested with mice and the heating unit was sparking with visible flames. The beds and pillows were uncomfortable, and a moldy smell lingered while showering; I had to use hand soap to wash my hair before work. The downstairs area closed at 6 every day and didn’t open until 9 am, so I couldn’t get coffee earlier. The walls were so paper-thin that I could hear people in the bathroom and full conversations. I tried to keep a breakfast sandwich in the fridge for an early work shift, but there were no mini-fridges or microwaves, no 3‑prong outlets, so I couldn’t charge my laptop. Two burnt‑out bulbs were over the beds. Listening to mice rustle around our belongings all night was an extra special, and we actually saw them. I watched a movie on my iPad while they ran underneath our beds. The photo shows the heating unit that could have literally burned the place down if we hadn’t heard it sparking and seen flames.

The location is really good—just a 7‑minute drive from the trailhead of Longs Peak—but the wooden structure is a little noisy. Whenever people move, you can hear it clearly.

The location is fine, but the beds were so small and the most uncomfortable I’ve ever slept in. It was cold, and the only heater that worked was in the bathroom.
