“This time the hospitality wasn’t as we expected. Some staff are cold and not very accommodating.”

We always choose this hotel when in Lisbon because we appreciate the old‑school hospitality of a place like Intercontinental. It’s a bit far from the center, but that’s fine for us. This time the staff weren’t as friendly and accommodating as we expect from a hotel of this caliber. We recognized some faces from past stays who were excellent, but the new staff… let’s say they need to learn a bit more about hospitality.

During a nine‑day, eight‑night stay in Portugal this was the biggest hotel we encountered, offering a comfort you don’t get in boutique properties; although it isn’t right next to the main sights, being opposite a park made it an ideal final night, quiet and calm, and the staff were friendly. The only downside was the distance to attractions, which some might actually see as a plus.

“It was a pleasant stay in all.”

I liked the breakfast, but the other meals were bland, especially the cod. It should be made clear that at certain hours it takes longer to get a taxi, which can be problematic if you need a specific type of car; this complicated my airport pick‑up and could have caused trouble. The concierge staff should improve their bedside manner.
