Senkei Plaza

“Beautiful position and staff and lovely outdoor onsen, but take your insect repellent if bathing at dusk!”

Lovely hotel with outdoor onsen and everything you could want, except NO LIFT in the Plaza section of the hotel. I stayed there with my son in 2006, and we were given a kaiseki in the room in our yukatas, which was superb. This wasn’t offered in 2026, so I went for the cheapest option, but the staff are lovely and speak good English. Just the lack of a lift.

I really liked the hotel, but there’s no elevator and carrying luggage is a hassle, although the staff helped.

The hotel was lovely and in a great spot; our room was very generous in size and we enjoyed the daily breakfast. Unfortunately it was a little too hot to fully enjoy the on‑site onsens, though they were lovely. I’ll definitely return when the weather is cooler. The location was excellent, letting us walk to the main street for dinner each night and to the station for the Hakone sightseeing loop.

Breakfast was fine, but the fourth floor had no elevator so we had to lug our luggage down ourselves; the bathroom curtain was mouldy, the hot water suddenly went cold and wouldn’t come back, the hair‑dryer blew barely any air, and the public hot spring was unsecured with no code or staff at the door, allowing anyone to walk in. Later the hotel offered a room change, but moving again was exhausting, and for the price paid in Japan the overall quality and experience were disappointing.
