“We didn't stay, the booking was cancelled at 6.30pm on the day of our stay.”
We were in London for the Remembrance parade, traveled by train around lunchtime on Saturday, visited some sights, then headed to this accommodation. The run‑down building had mailboxes ripped off the wall, the main entrance door was unlocked, and there was no signage; the building was filthy, smelled unpleasant, and felt dark and cold. Calls to the property went unanswered until a text said our booking had been cancelled and to check our email, but nothing appeared. The host claimed nothing could be done and that if we cancelled we wouldn’t be charged a fee. We booked the nearest Travel Lodge, a 25‑minute walk away, for £140 after already paying £70 for the original booking, with a refund promised in 6‑12 days. We were left without extra cash to book another place, and the Travel Lodge only let us rest after an email explained the property was undergoing maintenance, that the block needed to be knocked down and rebuilt. After several back‑and‑forth emails it became clear we had to cancel ourselves, otherwise we would still be waiting for the work to finish. The property honored the free cancellation and the refund has now been processed, but I don’t understand why we had to cancel. There was no support when we were left in that situation. Overall a complete disappointment, and I would definitely reconsider booking through other sites in the future.
