Host Giuseppe went above and beyond, taking time to explain Matera and its history, helping us book a restaurant, and giving excellent recommendations for activities and spots. He truly made the trip extra special. This place is 100% worth every penny.

The welcome and Giuseppe’s friendliness stood out, and the quirky “sasso” lodging felt original. The general equipment was fine, but the breakfast left a sour taste—stale bread and croissants that seemed out of place for the price; fresh bakery items or a toaster would have been a welcome touch. The photos on the website mislead, and we were disappointed to learn the jacuzzi was reserved for another room, not available to us. A missed opportunity there as well.

Everything was wonderful, from the well-designed, clean room in the heart of the Sassi to the attentive host Joseph, who was amazing right from the start. During the morning check‑out, public transport was disrupted by a marathon, and Joseph, the owner, helped us lift our luggage across the Old Town and get us back to our car—an incredible gesture. No complaints.
