We made a last‑minute stop in Wem on the way back to Cambridge from Wales; we didn’t realise it was carnival day and all roads were blocked on arrival, so we parked half a mile away on the roadside and had to drive carefully to the barn after the carnival ended. I didn’t mind that; the atmosphere was great and enjoyable. The co‑op was open late for food, there’s a kabab shop across the road and fish and chips next to the co‑op, and I think the castle pub also serves food. The TV was positioned very high on top of the cabinet, making it difficult to watch.

Check‑in was a breeze, a pub was right next door, and the hotel sits smack in the town centre. Spotlessly clean and cozy, I’d come back. The fridge was a nightmare—loud enough to keep us up—so we had to switch it off, and then silence returned.

Parking was a snap, the rooms were tidy, and the location was close to the high street. They offered tea, coffee, biscuits, and basic crockery/cutlery. I asked for a double bed but never heard back; instead I got two singles, and the lack of windows made the room feel stuffy.
