The location was fantastic with a view of the wild Kaiser from the bed, and the trust‑based self‑service was a good idea. We were surprised that the reception was closed for two days on arrival, but a helpful information bag was left, answering most questions.

I thought the concept was very good, it was something different.

Besides having a lovely room with a great balcony overlooking Wilder Kaiser, it was a really good concept where you could grab a cup of coffee, a bottle of water, buy a glass of wine, a beer, a cake or anything round the clock. Plus there was a drawer in a proper fridge, and you could use the breakfast room to eat lunch or dinner that you bought in town. We noticed that many families with children seemed happy with this freedom. The beds were too hard for me, but my husband slept well. Not a criticism, just a suggestion for improvement: I could have used a makeup mirror. The internet was unstable. We were kicked out and had to log in many times during the day. Since we were early birds, it would have been nice if the internet was available from six.

Great hotel with mountain view in a perfect location on Wilder Kaiser. Restaurants, shops, supermarkets within a few minutes, directly reachable on foot in Ellmau. Comfortable beds, tasty breakfast, great kids’ play area outside on the terrace with slide, seesaw, play house, vehicles, etc. – we’ll come back! Unfortunately there is no elevator, so it’s a bit cumbersome with a stroller and family luggage. Best to choose a room on the first floor.
