“Instagram tourist trap”
The outdoor onsen beside the river is unique and very beautiful; most staff were polite and helpful, and the food was plentiful and overall good. However, the rooms smelled musty, elevators and some areas smelled of cigarettes, the place was very dirty, my room had not been cleaned properly, there was hair on the toilet, spider webs and a spider, windows were extremely dusty inside, the futon was uncomfortable (even for a half‑Japanese person who lived in Japan in youth). Communal showers were all dirty with pink mold; all water in the onsen had sulfur, even in the shower, so it was unpleasant to wash with the smell of rotten eggs. Property pictures only showed the main building, a nice Japanese‑style wooden construction, but I was put in the east building, a very ugly decaying concrete building. Nothing was specified when I booked; I didn't get a “discount” room, I paid the same. Overall, a tourist trap. I recommend sleeping elsewhere and just using the ¥1,500 day‑use for the pools.
