I appreciated how the host was so available, but when I arrived they moved me to a different room because a window had been damaged by bad weather, and that room lacked the usual comforts.
I slept well, surprisingly quiet for a spot between a railway line and the road, plus a main road overpass overhead. The place had a coffee pot and gas stove, and the nearby Penny was a short walk for coffee, soap, and toilet paper, which were missing on arrival. The kitchen was spacious with four small tables for two each, but there was no couch, making the stay a bit uncomfortable. The listing mentioned an outdoor pool, but that was actually a public pool in town, and there was no Wi‑Fi.
“mhhh”
The apartment was well furnished, with comfortable pillows and plenty of space. I’m disappointed because the owner was very kind, but the location can’t be changed, and in summer it becomes hard to rest: at 6 a.m. with the windows open, the traffic toward the Abetone road wakes you up, and every half hour a loud train passes. The bathroom wasn’t very clean—the sink top was sticky, there was toothpaste residue, and I found dirty laundry in the basket and clothes in the washing machine. The shower drain was poor, filling to half a foot in a few minutes. The apartment lacked a kettle and microwave, even though they were listed. I wasn’t there for vacation but for work; after returning at 2 a.m., the involuntary 6 a.m. alarm was unpleasant. In short, I wouldn’t return for work or vacation.
“Really disappointing - given the wrong room and facilities poor”
The view of the river from the kitchen window was beautiful. And we were very close to the stunning historical bridge across the river. 1. We were given a room we had not booked. We booked a double room which the advert showed had a four poster double bed with white veils but we were given a double room with shared bathroom with plain IKEA type double bed in a different flat 2. The bedroom was 10 metres from a busy and noisy Autostrade flyover 3. The side lamp in the bedroom did not work 4. There was no gas for the cooker hob so food could only be cooked in the oven 5. There was no kettle 6. We couldn't work the dishwasher - no instructions were provided 7. The shower did not drain very well so you were left standing in 5cm of water in the shower tray 8. We emailed the owners about the above issues when we arrived but had no response 9. The owners did not greet us so we had no one to complain to face to face. 10. The balcony was tiny - 1.5 x 1 metres in size and overlooking a train line
The house was gorgeous and the surroundings charming; we loved it. The host was very friendly and always ready to help, making our arrival smooth after many hours of travel. The village is tiny and quick to walk around, but the setting is wonderful and only 20 minutes from Lucca, a lovely city. Definitely a good choice, highly recommended. The only downside was that the description said there was a iron, but it wasn’t there, which was a minor inconvenience since we needed it.
