“𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧”
𝐀𝐛𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 I made a reservation for two rooms for four adults, from 15th–16th August 2026, . The booking clearly stated “No credit card needed – Pay at the property”, with check-in between 2:00 PM and 9:30 PM. After a long drive from Colombo and spending the day completing our religious rituals in Kataragama, we arrived at the hotel at around 5:00 PM, well within the stated check-in time. Instead of being welcomed, we were told that our confirmed reservation had been cancelled without any prior notification because it had not been prepaid. How were we supposed to prepay when the booking specifically stated “Pay at the property” and no advance payment was required? We were then told that the hotel apparently cancels reservations because some guests do not show up. If that is their concern, they could simply contact guests and confirm their arrival rather than cancelling confirmed reservations without warning and leaving people stranded. 𝐇𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐛𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐫, 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐞𝐝𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐦𝐲 𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 “𝐝𝐨 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐥𝐢𝐦 𝐠𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐬.” This was absolutely shocking and deeply offensive. Whatever a person's religion or background, no guest should ever be subjected to such discrimination. The combination of cancelling a confirmed reservation without notice, contradicting the advertised booking conditions, and the alleged discriminatory statement made this one of the most shocking and unacceptable hotel experiences we have ever had.
