“A nature-house with great location and excellent hosts”
The hosts were extraordinary. Nothing significant was wrong.
“Sehr abgelegen”
Breakfast was very simple… There was no sea access nearby.
“Eine wunderbare Form des Aufenthaltes auf Big Island”
The spot is great, a lovely personal Bed and Breakfast. Eric, the owner, shares useful tips for things to do on Big Island, making you feel right at home. No complaints.
“A terrifying experience”
I chose Ala Kai Bed and Breakfast because of the glowing reviews about their “abundant breakfast,” but the experience was a huge letdown. First, the breakfast was awful—just basic supermarket bread, milk, and coffee, nothing abundant. Second, the service was unprofessional. On our second night we returned to the room late and wanted to sleep a bit longer the next morning; we were the only guests at that time, so I texted the host to delay our breakfast by one hour. The host ignored my message (as if it didn’t exist), so we didn’t get any breakfast that morning. To top it off, after checkout I found we were overcharged for the cleaning fee. The initial cleaning fee was already a steep $100 (which I thought was unfair since there was no room cleaning during our stay), and they added an extra $50 with no explanation. It took a whole month and going through the support system to finally get that $50 back. Between the misleading food, unresponsive host, and scary billing mistake, I would not recommend this place.
The hosts were friendly and communicated well. The views and black lava cliffs were beautiful. The location was close to everything we needed.
