“Great hotel - terrible restaurant.”
The hotel, the room was big, luxurious, immaculately clean and comfortable. The facilities and the staff at reception, the lobby bar and the concierge were fantastic. We got stranded (at a remote location) and couldn't get a taxi and the hotel sent one out to us. Great location as we got the train there from Taichung. Exit the station at the rear and it is 2 mins away. Nice big pool and a nice big negroni in the lobby bar. The restaurant on the top floor. We had the tasting menu, it was just lots of pork dishes and chicken broth. There were a couple of dishes that were tasty but some were disgusting - the date soup 🤢. We realise that could be our taste. However I had already been in Taiwan for a week and had some excellent food including pig intestines & stinky tofu in the market. I'm not a fussy eater. What was worse than the food was 1) they didn't have the wine we wanted, 2)it was an expensive meal and there were children screaming around us. 3)Although the restaurant staff started politely by half way through our tasting menu they were chucking the next course on the table before we finished the last one. They were clearing tables around us before we had finished. We sat down at 7.30 and left at 9, feeling very much pushed out. Our dinner was £150 and I would have had a better time at McDonalds. I would have given the hotel 10 if it wasn't for that awful estaurant experience. Avoid the restaurant
