The room was very pretty and spotless, but the staff were almost nonexistent and the place felt more like a community theatre than a guesthouse. The design was odd – the sink was in the shower, and the shower itself got really hot, so I ended up opening the door to cool down, which isn’t ideal. There was no wardrobe, and no one told us when to check out, which was strange. On top of that, a gecko was living in our kitchen next to our room, and we only found out about it from a sign written only in Thai.

It was a great stay overall; the people running the place were friendly and helpful. I would have liked some things to be sorted out before we arrived rather than after, though.

The artistic vibe was very interesting – a 4‑hectare site lovingly turned into a Gesamtkunstwerk by various artists over more than 20 years. The project also offers workshops and seminars, and depending on how many participants show up, the usually quiet grounds can become a bit noisy and restless.

The property and the room were gorgeous, with a huge amount of time and effort poured into its look. The views of the mountain ranges were incredible, and the distance from Chiang Dao centre meant almost no noise except for wildlife. There was a minor issue with ants in the bathroom, but it wasn’t a real problem.
