“Fantastic and amazing value for money - worth every penny.”
We had an amazing stay at this inn, arguably the most beautiful and friendly place we've visited in the UK. Coming from suburban London, we sought a remote, rustic spot in the moors to capture that foggy, misty countryside vibe of Dartmoor, and this place delivered. After a long 4‑hour drive from Tavistock, we reached Mary Tavy and were instantly charmed by the Highland Cows, rustic cozy decor, and a wall full of Millwall memorabilia from a family‑run pub in Dartmoor—we loved it. George, the most friendly and energetic hotel manager we've met, welcomed us, took our details, and showed us to a gorgeous, cozy miniature‑cottage‑style room with a warm atmosphere, spacious bathroom, and a striking picture of a highland cow. We returned to the bar for welcome drinks, which set a great tone for our two‑night stay. The next morning, we bumped into the owner, who shared the amazing backstory behind the Highland Cow theme, and the family and staff remained welcoming throughout. Waking up at 4 am on the second night, I stepped outside and was blown away by the incredible starry sky—something I’d only heard about as a myth. The food was amazing, the staff were friendly, and the location was ideal for everything you’d need. We’re thrilled to have found a base for Dartmoor and can’t wait to return. The only suggestion is that the suitcase didn’t fit under the bed, so a space to store it would be helpful, but it didn’t affect our stay.
