The Fijian team were incredibly welcoming, always smiling and George’s laugh could be heard during daylight unless he was underwater. Oneta Resort on Ono Island, part of the Great Astrolabe Reef, is unbeatable – just a 50‑minute flight from Nadi to Kadavu, where the staff, Boat Captain Sai and Leto, greeted us and made us feel safe. The boat ride was warm and scenic, and upon arrival the staff sang in beautiful harmony, an emotional moment unlike any other travel experience. Head of Housekeeping Jonani kept us comfortable and informed about the resort’s offerings; he’s professional, kind, gracious and also an excellent masseuse. Carpenter Mareselo’s design, layout and infrastructure – plus the gardens and Bure amenities – felt authentic, crafted and cared for, with housekeeping always looking after us. The limited guest number and the staff’s pride in maintaining the property, combined with their genuine personalities, created a sense of place, tranquility and safety; modern worries simply fade away. Chef Ben and his crew serve beautiful, authentic food, whether grown on the property, locally sourced or freshly caught from the ocean – we loved it! Staff Kasa and Emma handled everything with gentle care, making us feel like family, while Bartender Ben kept the island vibe organized and funny during meals. The Manta Ray, snorkeling and boat trips were led by highly skilled Captain Si (a Dare Devil), Meli, Arthur and Leto, who know the reef and tides like the back of their hands. No complaints.

This spot is truly special, surrounded by the most beautiful people at the resort. We earned our PADI certificates as a family here, and the place and its staff were the most patient, safe and accommodating we could have asked for. Special thanks to Anne and Maika for guiding us through our diving journey. No negatives.

The entire team – Maritim, Maintenance, Housekeeping, Restaurant, Kitchen – as well as Manager Richard, were all incredibly warm and welcoming.

The resort exudes simple elegance, with beautiful bures (bungalows) spaced nicely in the jungle and on the hill. No negatives.
