“Un weekend in settembre”
The location, shower, and breakfast were all good. The air‑conditioning system was the only issue.

Perched on Giglio Island, Hotel Castello Monticello provides sweeping Mediterranean Sea and Giglio Port vistas. Housed in a 1902 building, it features air‑conditioned rooms with garden or sea views, TV, minibar and private baths. Guests enjoy a buffet breakfast, a restaurant serving local specialties and Tuscan wines, a free shuttle to beach and port, and organized island excursions.

Castello Monticello is a very organized and welcoming property with an almost unbeatable value for money. Driver Raji and the reception guys, Francesco and Tommaso, are always friendly, as is the rest of the staff. The exterior has a nice liberty vibe, and although the interior is small—except for the spacious common rooms on the ground floor—it offers several services that aren’t standard for a hotel of this range. It’s cozy and functional overall, and staying there for a few nights was truly pleasant. My partner and I will definitely return! The only drawback is that the location doesn’t allow walking to other spots; however, the hotel shuttle smooths this out, except for the Castello, which requires a €29 one‑way surcharge.

The location and the exterior build are good. The furnishings are modest and could be maintained with more care.

The staff were kinder than expected, from the reception to the breakfast crew and even the van driver who ran the wonderful transport to and from the port, plus the cleaning lady. The place felt welcoming, clean, and simple. The included transport service was really handy. Having a small lunch basket for a few euros to bring to the beach was a great idea. Breakfast was good. Every question got an immediate answer, and I’m still grateful for the smiles that greeted us. Fresh, clean air on a hilltop where you can admire the beauty of Giglio. Nearby beaches and, for those of us who like to walk and explore tougher paths, the area is well served. We were so pleased that I can’t even rate the little things.
