The casale is quiet and comfortable, set amid lush greenery, and the breakfast is superb.

It was absurd to arrive at 7:40 and find the reception locked; we were left out in the cold and had to call the owner, who calmly explained he was at the airport escorting someone and that we should wait until 8:00 for an employee to open the desk and hand us the paperwork. After half an hour we weren’t even offered a coffee, which seemed completely unreasonable—how can you abandon a property with guests still inside?
