The view of the Public Garden from the room was lovely, but the porters and doormen only appeared when a tip was offered; they never paused their sidewalk chatter to greet anyone without bags, nor did anyone offer a “Good morning.” Even the housekeeping staff and back‑office personnel seemed resentful or angry, and the high price felt unjustified for such unkind service, which seemed to stem from the way staff are recruited and treated.
