The hotel is close to town restaurants and the river view from the room is nice. Yakushima island is definitely worth visiting. I couldn’t arrive on my first reservation day because the ferry from Kagoshima was cancelled. I called them that day and the hotel promised to refund part of the first night stay, but I never received the refund. The hotel itself is quite run down and definitely not worth the price. You can smell mold in the corridors.
“Malgré la vue magnifique de ma chambre et la gentillesse du personnel je ne referais pas ce choix.”
I stayed in the room with a mountain and river view, it’s so wonderful!!! The staff are pleasant and accommodating, even though their English isn’t perfect. The hotel even let me leave a suitcase with them on my departure day so I could wander around before heading to another place (the hotel had no availability for my last night on the island). The vegetarian breakfast (from the second day, see the negatives) was really good. The hotel seems to have a lot of history on the island, and even though everything is only in Japanese, the pictures give a glimpse of that history through the stay. I didn’t try the onsen (because of my tattoo, and it’s not covered), so I can’t comment on that. The hotel is totally dilapidated and in my opinion the view doesn’t justify the price given the condition of the rooms and the non‑functional equipment. I booked the view room to have a private bathroom, but the Japanese bath leaks and it’s impossible to take a shower… The doors fall apart, the tapestries are stained or torn, the wooden door papers are peeling, the hot water (individual gas tank?) is capricious, the sound insulation is nonexistent, etc. On the first day, despite telling the front desk I’m vegetarian, I got a standard breakfast with almost only meat and fish, so I only ate white rice. That mistake was fixed the next day.
“Very average hotel.”
Good location. Lots of poorly designed rooms. External signage is very poor, making it hard to find, and there are no signs to help locate the reception. The rooms are small and hard to use; as a couple we were very cramped.
The view from the window is superb, and it’s only a 5‑minute walk from all the restaurants. The owner is super friendly and was very helpful during the heavy rain. This is definitely the place to stay for your vacation.
“Nice hotel and ambiance, but the unprofessional and aggressive behavior of one manager significantly affected the stay.”
The hotel itself feels pleasant and reflects the calm, hospitable environment you expect in Japan. My experience was marred by the behavior of one manager, Tany. During the day I asked for a taxi and got no reply. At around 7 PM I asked again in person and was told vaguely that taxis were not available, but something might be arranged informally. No clear confirmation or cancellation policy was given. About an hour later I cancelled my request. Afterwards the situation escalated unnecessarily. At around 11 PM the manager came to my room, raised her voice, and demanded a cancellation fee. I was disturbed several times late at night and not allowed to rest, which is completely unacceptable. Her voice was loud and disturbed other guests as well. Additionally, whenever there were issues with room arrangements, responsibility was consistently shifted onto me instead of being handled professionally by the hotel. This behavior completely contradicted the otherwise calm and pleasant atmosphere of the property and unfortunately ruined the overall experience.
