The staff were very pleasant, everything was spotless (except the shower head, which could use a vinegar rinse or something similar); the dining area was cozy, the location was right on several hiking trails, and the parking was generous.
It was a good starting point for many hikes, with connections to the Igelbus and the forest railway, so I hardly ever had to drive. A small wellness area offered a sauna and paid whirlpools. The guest room and beer garden were nice. The annex rooms had a kitchenette, fridge, dishes, and a balcony/terrace. The breakfast buffet featured fresh items and plenty of choices. The annex rooms were relatively dark and tended to trap heat. The menu had little variety for vegetarians and none for vegans. I had visited for meals after hikes many times over the past six years, and the food quality had dropped sharply, with fewer fresh items and more processed foods. Cashless payments were limited; debit cards were not accepted.
“Guter Zwischenstopp während einer MTB Tour”
During our Arberland MTB trip we stayed one night here. There is a locked room for bikes. The sauna was a welcome relief after a tough day. Dinner in the beer garden was great, and breakfast in the morning was good too. The rooms and sauna area could use a bit of upkeep, but it didn’t bother us and was ideal for our needs.
The location and the staff’s friendliness stood out, and I also appreciated staying in a 200‑year‑old tavern. The thick walls and the spot meant there was no signal, which could actually be a big plus.
“Sehr schönes Gasthaus direkt an der TransBayerwald Nord!”
The forest house sits right next to a nature reserve and invites you to hike in the woods. It has a lovely beer garden, and the food and drinks are very good with very friendly service. It’s highly recommended for hikers or mountain bikers! The breakfast is also excellent and generous. Nothing to complain about, everything is perfect!
