“The stay was great and far exceeded my expectations. Arnold is the best host that I have ever met!!”
Breakfast was made fresh every day and always amazing; I ordered banana pancakes and scrambled eggs every morning. Arnold was a fantastic host who gave excellent, knowledgeable tips, so I did the sunset dhow cruise, Majilis Resort Shela Beach, and several restaurants based on his suggestions. I really enjoyed my time at Jambohouse and will definitely come back soon. The only thing I didn’t like was realizing I’d have to leave one day, haha.
Arnold, the owner, is incredibly kind and caring, going out of his way to make your stay comfortable. He spends a lot of time explaining the local activities and gives great restaurant recommendations, even providing a fabulous map of the township. Breakfast is outstanding, featuring fresh fruit juice, a variety of fresh fruits, eggs cooked to your preference, toast, tea, and coffee. Tea, coffee, and cold drinks are available all day for free, with cold drinks paid on an honour system. The rooms stay very clean and are serviced daily. The bed and pillows are comfortable, though a bit small. The cold shower works well and isn’t too cold. The hostel sits right in the centre of Lamu township.
Arnold’s friendliness is unquestionable. Breakfast is cooked on the spot and served immediately. The house’s beauty radiates history on all sides, and the décor constantly reminds you that you’re in Africa. Its location is very central, tucked into Lamu’s narrow streets. Don’t worry about the shower only having cold water; I assure you that in December you won’t need hot water at all. The Wi‑Fi works excellently on the terrace, but not in the rooms, which isn’t a major issue.
It’s my second stay at JamboHouse for a few days, and it’s always a pleasure; I’d return without hesitation if I need to stay in Lamu again. The location is central in the old town, the rooftop is very pleasant, the hotel offers plenty to do, breakfast is very hearty, and the staff really take the time to welcome each guest and explain how the city works. Overall, I liked everything.
The place is pleasant, clean, and friendly.
