“Idyllic location and views, wonderful staff”
The location and views were spectacular, offering a peaceful escape. The staff were friendly and professional, making every request easy. The food was excellent and beautifully presented. My room was comfortable, roomy, bright, and offered a stunning bay panorama. It’s a warm, welcoming, family‑run independent hotel, not part of a chain, and the staff’s dedication to my enjoyment was impressive. On the downside, the room and public areas feel very dated; only the main lounge has been refreshed with neutral, country‑house style furnishings, while the rest of the hotel seems untouched for forty years. This didn’t ruin my two‑night stay because everything was clean and comfortable, but the scale of investment required is huge for an independent, family‑owned property. The food is good, yet the prices seem too high for this part of Scotland, higher even than the honeypots in the Highlands that manage to stay competitive. It’s a shame, as I understand rising costs, but the rates still need to attract diners.
