The hotel is clean and the check‑in is high‑tech. The sound on the check‑in screen was questionable, and the clerk had to type the questions for us to understand. It’s a unique way to check in, just could be a bit better.

The location is great. Breakfast had waffles and coffee, and the staff were nice. On day 1 the shower only had cold water to rinse off sand; I was told a plumbing issue would be fixed the next day. In the evening of the next day there was no water in the room, so I was able to switch rooms and get water.

The location was really good. The room was quiet, the beds were comfortable and felt clean. I didn’t talk to or see a staff member the entire time, including check‑in where I didn’t want to talk to a screen. Half the time the man’s mouth was moving and I heard nothing. A few obvious needs for updating such as the fan in the bathroom was falling away from the wall.

The location was great for visiting the nearby Redwoods National/State Parks. Lots of food, grocery, and gas options in town before heading to more remote areas. Free breakfast was included. The front desk was a virtual agent on a screen located in another country; I much prefer a real human at the front desk. The hotel room door was difficult to open (the door closer arm seemed stuck), and there was a random hole in the wall opposite the door closer arm as if it had been slammed through at some point. The bathtub finish was peeling and an adhesive might have been applied on top to cover it. I always check for bed bugs, and there were none, but the mattress did not have a sealed cover and had a few stains on one side. Given all these things it just didn’t make the stay feel comfortable. You could tell repairs/renovations were needed and it appeared they were either neglecting them or fixing them cheaply.

I’m a Hilton member and the hotel across the street demanded a hefty points redemption, so I stayed here instead; it’s not as fancy but it’s just as adequate and the staff were welcoming.
