What struck me most was the hotel’s beautiful, contemporary design, especially the elegant lobby. The room itself was decorated in a modern style, with a stunning mix of dark wood and emerald green that looked absolutely gorgeous. Though the room was compact, it had everything I needed to unwind after a long day of sightseeing, including a comfortable bed that made it easy to get a good night’s sleep. Unfortunately, my experience was marred by a very unpleasant check‑in. I was feeling unwell with what seemed to be a seasonal cold after traveling by train from Beijing to Shanghai that day, and all I wanted was to check in and rest. I always book and, most importantly, PAY for my accommodation IN ADVANCE to avoid unnecessary stress while traveling. I was shocked when the staff told me I had to pay again and that they would refund my original payment after check‑out. My explanation that I had already paid in full seemed to make no difference, which I found extremely frustrating. I had paid in advance for my own convenience, yet after a long journey, while feeling unwell, I had to spend my evening dealing with a payment issue that should not have been my responsibility. I am prepared for unexpected travel expenses, but I certainly do not expect to be asked to pay twice for the same reservation. This experience completely ruined my first impression of the hotel. There were also a few minor issues. The bathtub was surprisingly small, even for someone of my height, and the bathroom lighting was poor for applying makeup. There was no spoon to stir the sugar provided with the tea and coffee. Cleanliness could also have been better: I found a long black hair in the cabinet with the toothbrushes, and the drinks table had an obvious coffee or tea stain. Under different circumstances, I probably would not have paid much attention to these minor details. However, after the stressful check‑in experience, they only added to my disappointment. Overall, the hotel is beautiful and the bed was comfortable, but the way the payment issue was handled overshadows the positive aspects of my stay. I expected a welcoming experience, not unnecessary stress over a reservation I had already paid for.

Everything was wonderful, but it was very difficult because the staff did not speak English, and the waitress at the Japanese restaurant was very rude.

The hotel is beautiful, the wing at reception is lovely, the rooms are large, the shower is very spacious, and the staff are friendly. The location and the cheaper food/breakfast could be better.

“poor hotel for the money”

The phone number in the booking confirmation email connects to a call centre, so the taxi driver can’t call the hotel to find its actual location. The location icon you receive when the booking is confirmed points to a place more than a mile away; luckily our taxi driver found the hotel on his maps. The hotel sits on what looks like an industrial estate, so there’s nothing to see if you walk outside. The staff were very slow checking us in. The room was so hot that the air‑con took more than 20 minutes to cool it. The staff said we could get an invoice for our stay the next morning when we checked out, but the next morning they couldn’t give us one. They said they would email the invoice; I gave them my business card, but no invoice was sent. Needless to say, we will never stay at this hotel again.

The place was spotless and the staff were friendly and helpful, but the location is a stone’s throw away from anything, and Shanghai is huge—traveling there takes about 45 minutes, which was a bit of a hassle.
