“Room needs redecorating, was difficult to walk around the room”
Good location, friendly staff, very informative, but no hot water for the shower and sink.

Nice location, but very dated and no standard hot shower.

The spot’s location is spot‑on, just ask for extra top and bottom sheets if you’re planning to cram a few people onto the pull‑out couch, and don’t forget to request more toilet paper. Friday and Saturday evenings at the pub are a must‑see – the music and vibe are killer. On the flip side, the hotel sits right on the waterfront in the Pacific Northwest, so a humpback whale often appears right outside the window, which totally outweighs any other downside.

The only place that was free when I visited Telegraph Cove, so that’s a win. The building feels a bit rundown, with outdated rooms and a pub that’s closed most days. Alert Bay itself is similarly worn down. And the ferry only runs every few hours, so it’s not the most convenient base for exploring the main island.

We knew we were booking an older hotel right on the Pacific Ocean, so that set the expectations. The suite came with a coffee maker, coffee and tea, and a fridge, but no breakfast – we were aware of that. Dogs were welcome, though they had to stay leashed all the time. Parking was right in front of the hotel, which was easy. The 5‑star restaurant was on the same floor, and everything else was within walking distance. The only drawback was that the stay felt too short.
