“Almost by the lake”

The spot was ideal for the World Nomad Games, sitting midway between the town centre and the Hippodrome. The room was basic but tidy, with air‑conditioning (the remote was tucked away in a drawer), a kettle, and a fridge. There was a slight view of the lake. The host tried to change my reservation even though I had booked almost a year ahead, which was frustrating but not my fault if they were over‑booked. They only offered cleaning on the second‑to‑last day of a five‑day stay, by which time it was no longer worth it.

“hübsch aber schmutzig”

The house was pretty, and the location for the Nomad Games was excellent – we could walk everywhere. Our room was comfortable and the bathroom was fine. Having a fridge in the room and a shared kitchen was very handy. Unfortunately, cleanliness was an issue. The communal kitchen was clean when we arrived but wasn’t cleaned again until six days later. There was only a single dish sponge, so we bought our own, along with kitchen paper, and we always washed our dishes. Trash wasn’t taken out, so the kitchen started to smell. Trash in the guest rooms also wasn’t removed, making the whole house stinky. I didn’t expect daily cleaning at this price level, but over a seven‑night stay I would have expected at least the trash to be emptied and the bathroom cleaned once. We even had to buy our own toilet paper. The common areas, like the entrance that got muddy in the rain, would have benefited from daily cleaning, as is typical in other guesthouses. On the sixth day after arrival, the owner came and cleaned, but otherwise the two young women who were supposed to manage the house mostly sat in their rooms staring at their phones (if they were there). I feel disappointed because the house itself was new and comfortable, but the description never mentioned that guests would have to clean themselves, there were no cleaning supplies, and no trash bin or bags on the premises. I think many of the positive reviews come from the time when the owner still managed the house personally.

The owner was very friendly and dedicated, handling every issue that arose from Booking with calmness. She didn’t let anything disturb her. However, in early August she sent a cancellation request for one of two rooms to Booking, which Booking didn’t forward. We were negatively surprised by this at the site. The owner pulled all the levers to find accommodation in a fully booked area.

The sheets and beds were good, but the location, room, plumbing condition, and staff left a lot to be desired.

The rooms were big and close to the lake, yet the shower was broken, the area was far from the city and unlit, and the streets were unpaved; breakfast was not included.
