Damara Mopane Lodge is a perfect stop for a couple of days when traveling between Swakopmund and Etosha. The lodge is beautifully set up, with individual bungalows arranged around small gardens where vegetables are grown. The rooms are very clean, and the staff are super friendly and welcoming. There’s also a big, refreshing cold swimming pool — especially useful when the flies get a little annoying, as they did during our stay. 😄 Breakfast was excellent, and the dinner buffet was also really good. Every evening at 18:00, they offer a sundowner with drinks at a viewpoint above the lodge, where you can enjoy a beautiful view over the surrounding area. We visited at the end of August and still needed the AC in our room during the day. One thing to know: Wi-Fi is only available around the reception area. The absolute highlight of our stay was the half-day desert elephant tour with Simon. It was an unforgettable adventure! We spent quite some time tracking the elephants, following dung and footprints across the area until we finally found a small herd of five. The effort was more than worth it when we were rewarded with some incredible close-up encounters. Afterwards, our guide prepared a live-cooking lunch for us right in a dried-out riverbed. Eating a freshly prepared meal in the middle of this incredible landscape was an experience in itself. Overall, we would absolutely recommend Damara Mopane Lodge — especially if you want to combine a comfortable stay with an unforgettable desert elephant experience

The public areas are gorgeous, the pool is spectacular, the buffet is excellent, the rooms are nice, the location feels magical and the staff are friendly. The bathroom looks fine but isn’t outstanding, and adding mosquito nets would be nice even though they aren’t needed in August.

Everything was flawless—the property is beautiful and welcoming, ideal for a stop before Etosha, and the terrace is perfect for watching the sunset while sipping a drink. The Wi‑Fi doesn’t work in the rooms and is spotty at reception and the restaurant (though that might be a blessing), and while dinner is good, we’ve had better meals at other Gondwana properties.
