The staff were friendly, but the rooms felt dated with worn-out armchairs, and the food was only average. There were no mosquito nets on the river-facing windows, so we couldn’t open them because of the bugs.
Even though the language barrier existed, the staff were kind and tried hard to communicate. The tatami floor in the room had a lot of hair and seemed not to have been vacuumed.
“Ryokan très agréable. Personnel charmant. Très bon Dîner”
Being close to Mount Haguro was great, and the river view was pretty. The staff were welcoming, and we were lucky to have English‑speaking staff at the restaurant who gave us interesting explanations during dinner. Very pleasant and friendly.
The location was gorgeous, the room was cozy, the staff were helpful, and the food was tasty. It was a bit far, but that added to its charm.
