“My trip to Mikoko Beach”
The surroundings and spot are impressive, and the food was tasty. The rooms feel cramped for the price, with only one bedsheet, a too-small bed, no blanket, no fridge, and no other entertainment.

The place is nicely decorated with a bar and kitchen, and the hostess and cook were very kind, friendly, and welcoming at all times. It sits 5 km outside Bagamoyo town, next to Kaole ruins, and opposite a swimming pool that’s nice for kids. However, loud music from the pool at night was annoying. One cottage lacked bedroom lighting, only a small light in the bathroom. The mosquito net was too small, so mosquitoes bothered us; the hostess sprayed again on the second night, which helped. The other cottage had no running water. On the first night we tried to use a socket to charge our phone, so we unplugged the broken wifi system plug or broke it—whichever it was—and didn’t tell the hostess. The cleaner replaced it the next day. After paying the final bill, a hostess informed us that the manager had charged TZS 50,000/= because we broke the plug. The manager wasn’t present, so we couldn’t discuss it; she would arrive that evening, but we had to leave for Dar es Salaam. We felt it was unfair to be fined for something we spent money on for accommodation, food, and drinks.

The staff was amazing, and it’s a shame they have to work in such a dishonest environment. We booked for three nights through a non‑refundable, non‑prepaid arrangement that didn’t accept card payments. On the way, our car broke down and we missed the first night. We called the hotel; the owner said it was fine to come the next day, she would adjust the booking to two nights and not charge for the first. The trip was a professional one for teachers from Uvi Foundation for Education teaching a hygiene class at MWK secondary school, so the booking was pre‑approved by our accountant. On the day of departure we were charged twice as much: instead of $56 for two rooms for one night, we were billed TZS 330,000 (about $130) for two nights. We tried to discuss it, but the conversation became unpleasant. We had a long drive ahead, so I paid and asked our accountant to handle it. The phone number was unreachable; nobody answered. The location is very disappointing: it’s not on the beach, and walking to the ocean involves a walk through garbage, and the beach itself is extremely dirty.

The staff was very friendly, though the place is a bit off the beaten path.
