“Séjour au Lac Ashi”
The hotel is great, well‑located, and the setting is ideal for visiting Hakone. Most importantly, the owner is very kind and offers good advice.
“Juillet 26”
Our host spoke English and we had an excellent dinner that evening. Although the place is pleasantly located right next to the dock, the hotel is far from the station, so it’s better to avoid traveling with luggage.
“The hospitality, personal attention, and genuine care made us feel at home. We can wholeheartedly recommend Jemsty Inn H”
Staying at Jemsty Inn Hakone Ashinoko was a highlight of our Japan trip. The host, MaC Hattori, is exceptionally kind, welcoming, and helpful, and his English is excellent, making communication effortless. He sent clear directions before we arrived, probably saving us from getting off the wrong stop on the pirate ship. We didn’t realize most restaurants in Hakonemachi close early, as many guests stay at ryokan with dinner included. Luckily, MaC offered an optional home‑cooked dinner for ¥3,000 per person, which turned out to be a great choice. The Tori Nabe (chicken hot pot) was outstanding and truly the house specialty. Our room was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed; it was basic but well maintained, and the air conditioning worked perfectly, keeping the room cool during the hot Japanese summer. The draft beer came with a fun twist: because of the altitude it foamed a lot, and MaC explained that you should drink the foam first before the rest of the beer—a small detail that made the experience even more memorable. Breakfast the next morning was just as delicious. Before we left, MaC also gave excellent tips for our visit to Shimoda, which proved very useful. The hospitality, personal attention, and genuine care made us feel at home, so we wholeheartedly recommend Jemsty Inn Hakone Ashinoko.
“très bien”
The apartment is just across from Lake Ashi and the boat departure bridge. The hosts are extraordinarily kind and do everything to make us comfortable; the gentleman even suggested a route to catch the Shinkansen to Osaka by going through a nearby village (30 min) instead of heading back to Odawara (over an hour), saving us a few yen. My daughter even received a few gifts when we left. We wanted to try a Japanese‑style room, so we slept on futons, but they were uncomfortable and the night was not restful. As Europeans we’re not used to this, so we don’t hold it to a strict standard.
“Une pépite”
There’s nothing negative to mention about this place. We were welcomed with rare attentiveness and kindness for a two‑day stay. The owner truly cares about ensuring a great experience and shares a wealth of useful information. I can only recommend the Jemsty Inn to anyone wanting a warm, authentic time by Lake Ashi.
