“Lovely comfortable place to stay.”

I’ve always wanted to stay at this iconic hotel and I wasn’t disappointed; it’s full of history and feels like a step back in time, which was perfect. I can’t think of any negatives about this lovely hotel.

Very old‑school, situated in a spectacular spot, quiet and isolated most nights, yet the bar and breakfast area have enough people to feel welcoming. The staff were great, and the bed in beautiful room 8 was amazingly comfortable. The only downside for me was that having two single beds in addition to our double took away some of the specialness; if that wasn’t included in the room price it makes the room seem expensive for what you get (the bathroom is down a short corridor, beyond another room). I also don’t remember an option for breakfast included, and at that price I thought it would be; check if you go, they charge about £14 for breakfast, which is well worth it.

“A fantastic base for a weekend in the Lake District”

I really enjoyed my two‑night stay here. I booked the single room with a separate private bathroom, and it was very comfortable; the bathroom was right next door, spacious and clean. The location is fantastic, with plenty of walking right from the door. After a long day of walking, the pub food was great, and the bar had a nice atmosphere for a few well‑deserved drinks. I understand the hotel needs to offset booking costs, so I didn’t mind paying a bit more than booking directly, but it felt excessive when I found out breakfasts are complimentary when you book direct and not through this booking platform.

“Just splendid”

The staff were friendly, breakfast was fine, and the location is super amazing. More space in the bathroom would have made it feel even more luxurious.
