“普通に良い”
Very cheap and clean, the bath isn’t huge but it’s more than enough. We booked a standard Japanese room for two and rested well. The futon was a bit thin; I wish there was a single water bottle.

Located just across the road from Kyoto Station's Central Exit, Matsumoto Ryokan offers simple air-conditioned rooms with LCD TVs, Yukata robes, and free Wi-Fi at the lobby. Guests can choose between Western-style rooms or traditional Japanese lodgings with tatami floors, futon bedding, and low tables with floor cushions. The hotel is a 1-minute walk from Kyoto Tower and a 4-minute walk from Higashi Hongan-ji Temple.

The staff were very good. The food wasn’t really to my taste.

The rooms were very cozy and they sit right by the main train station, but the language barrier made communication a bit tough.

The staff here were exceptionally friendly, kind, patient and helpful. We felt very looked after. It felt calm and relaxing (especially important to me as I found the busy nature of being in the city a bit overwhelming at times). On my birthday the reception staff surprised me with some locally sourced chocolate which I found very touching. The location was brilliant for travelling around Kyoto as it is very close to the train station and bus station. This was my favourite hotel that I’ve ever stayed in. I was keen to stay in a traditional hotel but my body did miss sleeping in a modern bed

A traditional place with excellent service; I would definitely come back.
