I came here with low expectations but ended up loving it. The host is extremely warm and will chat whenever he can. He’s interesting, speaks some English, and will translate if needed. He works hard to make your stay enjoyable, and my room was nice with a good view and a very practical storage layout for gear and clothes. The gas heater keeps the room warm efficiently. There are stairs, but they weren’t a problem for me. The drying room for ski gear works well, and you can wash clothes for a small fee to use the dryer. The onsen is tranquil, full of hot water from Mount Myoko springs. The hotel’s location is great, close to a few small grocery shops, decent restaurants, and the relaxing Alpen Blick spa resort. Ikenotaira (Alpen Blick ski Resort) is just up the road and walking there with snow gear isn’t too far. Public transport and the Myoko shuttle are nearby. Initially I wasn’t fond of the Japanese rice pillows; they don’t offer another type, but I eventually liked them after getting used to their different support. I had one dinner but really enjoyed the perfectly timed breakfast each morning, always a little different and a great start to the day. The overall hotel was quiet and filled with interesting art and decorative items everywhere. Thank you very much.
