Le Margouillat

We arrived in the afternoon and the girl at the front desk told us that the room we had booked was occupied. They sent us to a smaller, dirty apartment with an unbearable heat and no air conditioning, even though the other one had it. Then they moved us again to a place with two super uncomfortable beds and a shared bathroom. The reception was awful that time; it was clear the owners weren’t present. The worst part was that when we left they tried to charge us for the apartment we had booked through Booking, even though we never slept there. The service was lamentable. Another issue was that the lights always went out around 11 pm and it got scorching hot; when my partner opened the door to warn us, the air would turn on again… I don’t know if they turned it off intentionally, but without AC it was impossible to stay there.

Marie’s husband and she were incredibly kind, and the staff at Fathala were very helpful with everything we needed. The two guys on site were also very friendly. The location is perfect because it’s not in the city centre but it’s very quiet. Everything was perfect.

The owner was very friendly. The Swiss proprietor welcomed us nicely and gave us great tips about the area. Everything was clean. We would definitely stay again.

The hosts were wonderful; we felt warmly welcomed and well looked after. They offered support, care and all the information we required, and arranged a nice guide for our trip. They presented all the options in the area—activities, restaurants, etc.—and answered any question we had. They also helped with transportation on our last day, which we appreciated a lot. The laundry service was very reasonably priced. The garden was lovely, and the monkeys and birds that passed by added a unique and memorable touch to our stay. We could use the kitchen for anything we needed. The room was spacious and had everything we required. They also gave us plenty of mosquito‑repellent supplies. The breakfast music was lovely, and the homemade juice (hisap) was amazing. We felt at home in their place and in the town itself—we hope to return. The only suggestion would be to add an egg to breakfast for a few days; the salty breakfast options become a bit limiting after a few days.
