The floor was dirty, the sheets were soiled, the bathroom was not in the room (it felt like a shack and was full of mold). There were no windows along the corridor and a sewer smell filled the air. There was no hot water; I’ve traveled for years and never seen a situation like this.

The owner is a great guy and very knowledgeable about Portuguese history. The location is close enough to the city center but far enough to avoid crowds. The restaurant downstairs serves excellent home‑cooked meals at a good price.

The room is comfortable and airy, has air‑conditioning, and is very quiet. Good location, close to bus lines. Private bathroom on the outer corridor and a shared kitchen for guests. João, the host, is very polite and helpful, answering all our messages quickly and clearing up our doubts. The bathroom shower box isn’t fully closed; shower water drips onto the toilet and sink area. I had to ask the host for a bucket and mop so we could dry the wet floor ourselves. Cleaning of the room and bathroom only happens when guests are present and allow it; it’s not done in the guests’ absence, which leaves trash accumulating in the room and bathroom bins. We had to tidy our own beds during our stay. We also noticed trash piling up in the kitchen bin. There wasn’t enough space for all the garbage from guests using the shared kitchen, so trash accumulated outside the bin. Matheus, the cleaner, is very polite and helpful, but he doesn’t come to the building every day, which makes the cleaning service feel lacking due to accumulated trash.
