Walking distance from Gion, the market, and shopping streets. The staff were very helpful. We had a traditional Japanese room, so you lie on the floor. We slept well, but if you’re not very flexible, getting up can be a problem. The only negative was the busy road nearby.

I was pleased with the location, the staff, the cleanliness, and the rooms – everything was good and the staff deserve a pat on the back. Unfortunately the building had a damp smell, but that’s just Kyoto at the end of August, as humid as Madagascar.

The place is gorgeous, the establishment is beautiful, and it’s well‑situated (10 minutes from JR Shijo). In the middle of a brutal heatwave the hotel was well air‑conditioned. The room was a Japanese style with a futon on the floor, a small bathroom/shower, and a toilet close to places where you can withdraw cash and automatically exchange yen. The photos on the booking site over‑sell the place.

The ryokan was stunning with traditional rooms. You sleep on the tatami, preparing the futon yourself, but the staff are very helpful and step in if needed. They pay close attention to guests, the place is very quiet, and the location is perfect for exploring Kyoto, just two metro stops from the central station.
