Overview
Llandudno sits on a narrow peninsula between the Irish Sea and Conwy Bay. You move between two distinct seafronts: the curved Victorian promenade on North Shore and the quieter sands of West Shore. The town was purpose-built in the 1850s, so the grid street plan is unusually orderly for Wales. High winds off the Irish Sea can disrupt cable cars and summit tramways without notice.

A short history
Llandudno developed rapidly after Lord Mostyn enclosed the common land in 1848. Architect George Felton designed a planned resort grid that strictly regulated building heights and facade styles. The arrival of the rail line in 1858 brought Victorian holidaymakers in high numbers.

Wind speeds on Great Orme are much higher than in town. Pack a windproof jacket even in midsummer.
- Early Kitchen Closures
Pubs and restaurants frequently close kitchens by 20:30 or 21:00 outside July and August.
- Seagull Awareness
Seagulls along the pier and promenade actively steal food from hands. Keep food covered outdoors.
- Tide Differences
North Shore is stony with a steep shelf. West Shore has wide sand flats that recede for hundreds of metres.
