“とても癒されます。実家にしたいです。”
It’s so calm I’d consider making it my home. I felt healed by all five senses. The path from the shower room to the open-air bath gets wet, and the toothbrush feels “wooden.”

The building is very nice with a view of a small garden. We heard monks reciting Sutra in the morning, which set a very atmospheric mood. Breakfast was good and served in a modern cafeteria built in timber with many windows. The information about breakfast was a bit outdated, as breakfast is now served in a different building.

I was able to enjoy a quiet time, but I wish there had been a rice cooker.

This place is a unique spot inside temple grounds, with a well-equipped room, living area, and bathroom; a washing machine and separate dryer are added bonuses, and everything is clean and functional. However, the price feels off because we were given a self‑check‑in code, yet the doors were already open when we arrived. Later we noticed that the temple staff can freely move in and out of the compound, since one side is used as storage, and only at the end did we realize there’s a separate lock outside our sleeping area, which the check‑in manual never mentioned, so at times it seemed like anyone could enter our space. Additionally, for the cost it feels very much like an Airbnb: you have to bring your own futon. Also, Kiryu is a small town with almost no taxis; the train station is nearly a 20‑minute walk, which can be tough with luggage in the bright summer sun. It’s not all bad, but the “temple stay” doesn’t feel special unless you join temple activities, and for the price you could probably find a better serviced stay elsewhere, though options in Kiryu are limited.

We had a very pleasant stay and really enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere; the morning meditation was a highlight.
