This hotel works well at an excellent location inside Alishan National Park. It’s an easy walk from the train station and the bus terminal. The location is what you pay for. Otherwise the hotel isn’t special, but it works fine. The staff may not be very friendly, but they get the job done; you can leave luggage before check‑in and after check‑out. The room is small but clean, with a comfortable bed and a private bathroom with a shower. There’s also a dehumidifier in the room, which is very useful and will surprise you. No need to worry about bad reviewers. Breakfast is included in the price, located next to the train station (ideal when returning with the sunrise train). It’s very local; from an international perspective it’s not very useful, but it’s interesting to see local food. But who wants lunch at 7 am? The price reflects the location; this was the only visible place in the area. There are in fact more hotels around; you can check Google Maps (we didn’t investigate much). Another option is to arrive just for one day. The only interesting trail to Datashan is closed, and all other places can be easily visited in a day either by walking or by a minibus. You need a hotel only if you insist on the sunrise train, which is an Asian must, but from a European perspective you’ll get better pictures and views during the day anyway.
