Located within the Cradle of Humankind, aha Lesedi African Lodge & Cultural Village showcases traditional African cultures in five authentic homesteads, including Zulu, Xhosa, Pedi, Basotho, and Ndebele. The lodge features colourful rooms with wooden furniture, carpeted floors, and en-suite bathrooms, as well as a three-tiered restaurant serving African dishes and a bar serving refreshing drinks.

The staff were friendly, understanding, and compatible, especially receptionist Thembeka whose interpersonal skills are the best; the only downside was the security personnel making noise with their cellphones—wishing they had earphones.

I stayed here on Heritage day and the cultural village tour was again brilliant, kicking off with group drumming followed by food and language experiences; both dinner and breakfast were great, making it a truly special place.

Breakfast was exceptional with a variety of options and tasty food. We were grateful for the late check‑in, but we weren’t offered Wi‑Fi, so the kids had a long evening without it, and there was no admin on duty after the stated hours.

The staff were amazing, greeting you with song and dance; the place feels like stepping back in time, ideal for those who appreciate culture or just want the experience. A few power outages happened but were fixed, the room had tiny frogs and spiders, the bed was a double instead of a queen, and the mirror was awkwardly positioned next to the kitchenette table.
