The 4-star Abalone Guest Lodge is situated at Sievers Point, overlooking Hermanus Bay, ideal for whale-watching. This small guest house features 5 tastefully decorated rooms with en-suite bathrooms and private balconies or patios offering panoramic sea and mountain views. A full breakfast is served daily, and whales can be spotted from the al fresco dining area.

The staff at Abalone Guest Lodge were wonderful—friendly and helpful. The deck offered great views and easy access to the coastal walking path. They booked whale watching for us, and we had a fantastic experience; Hermanus during whale season is spectacular, and I wish everyone could see it.

The location is gorgeous right on the Cliff Walk, about 30 minutes on foot from downtown Hermanus. The rooms are beautiful and unusually large; ours had a balcony overlooking the sea, from which we could see a spectacular sunrise each morning. Breakfast was served on the terrace. The staff were very friendly. We didn’t use the pool, but it looked lovely. The only downside was that there were no food options for lunch or dinner either in the hotel or within walking distance nearby. If you want to eat after dark, you have to leave the property by car or Uber. A small snack menu or sandwiches would have been great.
